What is AI?

What Gen AI can do, where it helps, and how your team stays in charge.

What is Gen AI?

Generative AI, or Gen AI, is a type of artificial intelligence that can create things such as text, images or ideas from a prompt you give it.

Gen AI is only one kind of AI. Other types of AI can help with things like recognising faces in photos, suggesting songs or videos you might like, translating languages, spotting patterns in data, or helping a car stay in its lane.

Gen AI tools you may have heard of include ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude and Gemini. These tools look for patterns in language and use them to create a response.

·       They do not check a live book of facts before answering.

·       They can be useful, but they can also make things up.

·       Your team checks the answer, chooses what to use and makes the final decision.

Think of Gen AI as a helpful teammate. It can suggest ideas and first drafts, but the whole team decides what is right for your company.

How this could help your company

You could use Gen AI to brainstorm product names, draft a marketing email, plan a market research survey, improve a pitch script or test whether your company mission, goals and values are clear and understandable.

How to use Gen AI well

Gen AI is best for starting points, not final answers.

Gen AI can help your team with:

·       Brainstorming names, slogans, product ideas or ways to advertise.

·       Drafting first versions of emails, posters, social posts or pitch scripts.

·       Summarising board meeting notes and listing actions.

·       Explaining something in a simpler way.

·       Testing whether your ideas match your company values.

Before using an AI response, do a quick team check: could this be wrong, can we check it somewhere else, does it sound like us, and would we be happy to explain it to a customer, judge or teacher?

We are happy for you to use Gen AI in your Company Programme journey.

If you use it for something you submit, keep a simple note of the tool and prompts you used. This helps you explain how your team developed the final idea.
